Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Donations

I'm sure you've seen or heard the news by now. Bad things happen all over the world. If you want to donate to help the recent events of the Japan earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami, the civil unrest in the Middle East, families of the military or just to any cause ... the Red Cross is accepting DONATIONS!!!

Google Crisis Response also has great information regarding the event as well as a "Person Finder" with nearly 19,000 84,000 pieces of information when I last checked. I have embedded the tool below ... so if you are looking for someone or have information about someone that is missing, please try the person finder below.

UPDATE: Decided to give some extra time to the Salvation Army. Donation info below (straight from the SA website):
  1. Donate online at
  2. Call 1-800-SAL-ARMY
  3. Text the words “Japan” or “Quake” to 80888 to make a $10 donation. (Please ensure that you respond “YES” to the Thank You message you receive.)
Just a word of caution ... while texting your donation is pretty easy, it could take a month or two for the funds to make it to where it needs to go. If you want your money to have a more immediate impact, donate over the phone or online. Also, if you are going to donate, make sure it is a reputable organization like Red Cross or Salvation Army. Some organization that collect funds take a portion of the money to cover expenses for doing so. So again ... for a direct impact ... donate directly to a solid and trustworthy organization.

UPDATE 2: Apple is also collecting funds for the Red Cross to aid the victims of the earthquake and tsunami. Very easy to do actually. If you have ever bought anything on the iTunes store, then your credit card is already on file. Here is the link.
